Year-end planning: flexible spending accounts

by MonicaW on December 26, 2009

Just a reminder to everyone with flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to spend, spend, spend that money on or before 31 December!  Don’t lose the money that was already taken out of your paycheck.

If you have FSA money left and have paid all your medical bills for 2009, then it is time to buy any over the counter (OTC) items that you will need for the upcoming year.   If you aren’t sure what qualifies, CVS has a nice feature that helps you find FSA eligible items, as does drugstore.com. Target also has some FSA information on its Web site under “health spending”.

CVS currently is currently running a special where if a person spends $65 on non-prescription items, then shipping is free and $10 off– if you use a MasterCard to make the purchase, an additional $5 off.

Walgreens.com has free shipping for purchases of $50 or more.

Drugstore.com has free shipping for purchase of $25 or more.

(And if you accidentally buy more pain relievers than you need, then share with your parents or grandparents:)

Some FSA eligible items that surprised me: Blistex and OTC acne treatments.
